Felix Wei Ningyi

First Prize winner of the Alice and Eleonore Schoenfeld 1st International String Competition (Chamber Music Division) and Fourth Prize winner of the Canetti International Violin Competition in Turkey, Wei Ningyi is a young musician of exceptional depth and quality.

As a soloist, Ningyi appeared in The Butterfly LoversConcerto under the baton of Sharon Andrea Choa in The Shenzhen Concert Hall and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Amphitheatre with the joint orchestra of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra and Shenzhen Arts School Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017 and in Sibelius’ Violin Concerto under the baton of Patrick Furrer in The Academy Concert Hall with The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra in 2016. He was also invited by the Musicus Society to perform in a Chamber Music Gala, sharing the stage with renowned international musicians including Trey Lee, Pekka Kuusistoand Vladimir Mendelssohn in 2016. It led to the re-invitation to the Musicus Heritage Community Concert Series in University Museum and Art Gallery of Hong Kong in 2017.

Ningyi joined the Aspen Music Festival in the USA in the summer of 2017 and participated in the prestigious McGill International String Quartet Academy in Montréal, Canada in August 2016 with full scholarships by VM Strings. In 2012 he toured with the Asian Youth Orchestra with scholarship to perform in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Japan. Other major scholarships included the Academy Non- Local Scholarship, the Society of APA Non-Local Scholarship and Y. S. Liu Foundation Scholarship.

    Ningyi is was keen on chamber music making and is the violinist of the Gloucester String Quartet, graduate quartet in residence of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. The quartet is currently under the tutelage of Ivan Chan (former leader of the Miami String Quartet), Prof. Michael Ma and Prof. Ray Wang. Their performances have been heard in venues such as the Royal Academy of Music, the West Dean College, the Wells Cathedral, the Central Conservatory of Music, the Shantou University, the Harvard Club of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong City Hall. Recent highlights include performances under the auspices of the Musicus Fest and the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival; collaboration with members of the Miami String Quartet in the Helmut Sohmen and Peter Thompson International Artists Series in 2013; a concert with pianist Ido Akov from Jerusalem presented by the Consulate General of Israel in Hong Kong in 2014; the Musicus Heritage Community Concert with pianist Colleen Lee at the PMQ and a CD recording project sponsored by the Academy in 2015; public concerts presented by the Academy, the Foundation for the Arts and Music in Asia (FAMA) and Hong Kong Chamber Music Society at the Ladies Recreation Club, a China tour to Chengdu and Shantou, a concert with guitarist Craig Ogden in Hong Kong, the Musicus Heritage Community Concert in the Flagstaff Museum of Tea Ware in 2016 and the Hong Kong Arts Festival PLUS Programme: Czech Music for a Sunday Afternoon in 2017.
