Lyndon Hilling


Lyndon Hilling studied at Trinity College of Music, London and the London Institute of Education. His main instruments are bassoon, recorder and piano.

He performed widely with the Chiltern Wind Quintet, winning a number of national chamber music awards including the Worshipful Company of Musicians, Maisie Lewis Foundation award.

He joined the staff of the Northamptonshire Music Service in 1976, and when he retired he had served for 25 years as Head of Woodwind Teaching. During that time he conducted all the county wind bands and orchestras, including performances with the county youth orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall on a number of occasions.

His First and Second Books of Bassoon Solos, published by Faber, continue to be enjoyed by young bassoonists and his compositions for recorder ensemble are widely performed throughout the world. A keen traveller, he has journeyed to the heights of Kilimanjaro and the depths of the Amazon jungle, the plains of Outer Mongolia and the frozen wastes of Antarctica.
