Kok-Ting Chong

Born and educated in Malaysia.After completing his studies in Ipoh, pianist Kok-Ting Chong was offered a scholarship to further his studies at Trinity College of Music, London.

After leaving college, he worked as a peripatetic piano teacher for few London boroughs and the Junior Department of Trinity College of Music, London. Subsequently Kok-Ting was also an avid accompanist in the concert and competition circuit. He was a prize winner of numerous competitions:- The John Longmire Prize, The John Halford Prize, The Elisabeth Schumann Lieder Prize, The English Song Prize, The John Ireland Trust, The English Singers and Speaker. He was highly commended in the Great Grimsby Competition and The Young Musician of the Year Competition in Stockholm.

After returning to his home country, he was active in the thriving classical singing scene in Malaysia working as a vocal coach and accompanist pioneering the repertoire of Italian Opera, French Mélodie and German Lied. In 2001 he set up his own performing arts company – Artists Platform, where he successfully organised and performed in many critically acclaimed Opera and Art Song productions collaborating with the Embassy of Italy, Embassy of Germany, Alliance Française, Goethe Institute and KL Performing Arts Centre. His contribution to the Malaysian National Classical Singing Competition as a vocal coach and accompanist is well recognized. In 2001 he was awarded the first ever Accompanist Prize by the panel of adjudicators. Concert engagements took him around England, Sweden, Italy, Korea, China, Macau, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.

As an educator, Kok-Ting was previously attached to The University Institute of Technology Mara, Segi College Malaysia, International University College of Technology Twintech and The Yamaha
Academy of Arts and Music. During his stay with Yamaha Music Malaysia acting as the head of the Piano Course, he regularly organised and conducted upgrading seminars,  workshops and Professional Development Programmes for teachers and students throughout Malaysia. He is currently based in Johor Bahru  working as a piano tutor, vocal coach and accompanist. He is also on the board of facilitator for the Professional Development Programme of Trinity College Malaysia.
